# Rate limits

> How many requests a Gensiv API key can send and what happens when it goes over.

Each key can send 120 requests a minute. Over that, the API answers `429` until the minute is up:

```json
{
  "message": "Too many requests",
  "why": "This key sent more requests than its rate limit allows",
  "fix": "Wait a minute and send the request again"
}
```

The limit is per key, so two keys in the same workspace each get 120 a minute. Requests from the MCP server with a key count toward the same limit.

To stay under it, page through lists with `page` and `pageSize` instead of fetching every page at once, and cache responses that don't change often, such as the brand hub or the engine list.
