What is Mention?
A mention is an occurrence of a brand name in the text of an AI-generated answer. It is distinct from a citation, which is a reference to the brand's website as a source behind that answer.
A brand can be mentioned without being cited, and cited without being mentioned. Tracking them separately matters because they respond to different work: mentions follow from how the model understands your category, citations from whether your pages are retrievable and trusted.
